The Social Enterprise Academy provides learning and development programmes for people and organisations working for social change.
We help people to develop themselves, their teams and their organisations to create sustainable businesses and have greater social impact. Our programmes support organisations at all stages and focus on four key areas; leadership, enterprise, social impact, and personal development.
Through our Social Enterprise in Education programme, we have supported over 1,000 schools across Scotland to set up pupil-led social enterprises. Since 2016, we have been replicating internationally and now have 13 hub teams around the world supporting social enterprise in their communities.
Environmental Social Enterprise
As the Scottish Government’s economic and community development agency for the north and west of Scotland, Highlands and Islands Enterprise’s (HIE) purpose is to generate sustainable and inclusive growth across the Highlands and Islands.
HIE wants the Highlands and Islands to be a highly successful and competitive region in which increasing numbers of people choose to live, work, study and invest. A key principle for the agency in supporting growth, is placing the region’s people and communities at the heart of their own social and economic development.
HIE’s unique remit which integrates economic and community development to achieve sustainable progress in every part of our region remains as relevant today as it was back in 1965. During this time, we have pioneered community-led development and we remain at the forefront of enabling a strong social enterprise sector. Our work delivers the mutually supportive goals of increasing growth (opportunity) and tackling inequality (need) as articulated in Scotland’s Economic Strategy, and is consistent with our twin-tracked approach to development across our region.
